Rolling steel ingots or billets with different chemical compositions and shapes into steels with the desired shape and performance requires a series of processes. The combination and sequence of these processes are called the process. Due to the wide variety of steels, different shapes, steel grades and uses, the process used to roll different products is different.

Properly determining the process is important to ensure product yield, quality and cost reduction.

The process of rolling steel production is quite complicated. Despite the improvement of the quality requirements of rolling products, the expansion of the range of varieties, and the application of new technologies and new equipment, the various processes that make up the process will change accordingly, but the entire rolling production process always consists of the following basic processes:

(1) Preparation of blanks, including cleaning of surface defects, removal of surface scale and pre-heat treatment of billets.

(2) Billet heating is an important process in the hot rolling production process.

(3) Steel rolling is the core of the entire rolling production process. The blank is subjected to a shaping process by rolling. The rolling process plays a decisive role in the quality of the product.

The quality requirements of the rolled product, including the geometric and dimensional accuracy of the product, internal organization and performance, and surface quality of the product. The task of formulating the rolling schedule is to provide reasonable process parameters on the basis of in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the rolling process, to satisfy the above quality requirements and to ensure good technical and economic indicators of the rolling mill.

(4) Finishing rolling is the last step in the rolling steel production process and a complicated process. It plays the ultimate guarantee role for the quality of the product. The technical requirements of the product are different, and the content of the finishing rolling process is also very different. The finishing rolling process usually includes many specific processes such as cutting or coiling of steel, cooling after rolling, straightening, heat treatment of finished products, surface cleaning of finished products, and various coloring.
