What is the Material of the High-Speed 30-50mps TMT Pinch Roll in the TMT Bar Mill?

Tungsten carbide or cast iron is used in bar mills for TMT pinch rolls.

All the materials listed are good from the point of view of TMT pinch roll wear etc. Personally, I would go for carbide but only if you have sufficient cooling and the ability to machine carbide at your site.

The other thing to consider here is the drive capability and how it will be affected by changing the material. For example, Carbide has a much higher density than tool steel meaning for the same size roll there is a higher mass. If you really wanted to make this change then it is necessary to think about the motor power for when the roll is changing speed, the strength of the coupling to be able to take the extra torque, and many other things. It sounds simple to just change the material but can end up being very expensive for only minor gains.

Technical Requirements for  TMT Pinch Roll

(1) High-temperature resistance

The TMT pinch roll bears a temperature of about 550-650°C; the surface of the pinch roller is required to be resistant to high temperatures and alternating cold and heat.

(2) Corrosion resistance

It is required that the pinch roller surface is resistant to repeated erosion and cooling by circulating water with high alkalinity.

(3) Do a dynamic balance test

After the pinch roller is manufactured, a dynamic balance test must be done, the balance accuracy level is required to be G6, and a dynamic balance test report must be submitted.
